13 - Analysis of splice title sequence

(All title sequences can be found on artofthetitle.com)

Film: Splice
(I chose this film as my group have decided to make a title sequence for the genre thriller).

Macro elements
The theme and genre are clearly displayed instantly as the ident for Warner Brose is integrated/adapted to the genre/theme of the film.

A hint towards the storyline is given off as the camera moves along what appears to be the body and skin of the snake, by doing this it suggests that snakes could be relevant to this film.

The image on screen changes after a period of darkness. It now looks like the inside of a human body, this could be referring to an event where the inside of the human body could be of significance, as the film is called splice and this sounds very similar to slice.

Small white dots then begin to go past the screen, this confirms the idea of being inside of a human body as the white dots look like white blood cells. This hints towards the plot, storyline and main character as it suggests the main character has some sort of obsession with the insides of human body's.

Micro elements
Even though the title sequence is an animated piece do you solve camera is very good. It is tracking/following the moving image on screen and it also copies the movements of the main image (as the object on screen bends, the camera bends to get the same perspective of going forward).

The title sequence cleverly used an editing technique to make transitions a lot smoother. They use a fade to black with a contrasting colour in the middle; this is to keep something on screen as the next image begins to expand from the small point of the contrast in colour. This makes it seem as if it was formed from the previous image.

A piano sound is played shortly after the ident finishes; this sets up an eerie feeling which instantly forebodes of horrific/traumatising events.

The lighting is very dark and only the centre is highlighted leaving the outskirts black. This gives off the feeling of being unsafe as darkness is surrounding the only bright part of the screen (outnumbered by some kind of dark force).

The sound also helps us to go on the journey that the camera is taking us on as it changes with the speed of the camera. This helps to engage the audience more.
