My favourite film is 'The Stepfather (2009)'. The type of title sequence it uses is titles on moving images, I know this because The titles are not on a blank screen neither on still images and it does not use animations. It incorporates credit titles with moving images behind the title and has sound and no dialogue.
Moving images serve to offer a metaphor and narrative thread for the storyline, it further helps to introduce the tone and storyline of the film. One of them moving images shows he is shaving kit laid out with precision. This shows that the character has some sort of OCD indicating he is not normal. The fact that the shaving kit is laid out with such precision, makes it look like a doctor's surgery table before operating. This is very metaphorical as doctors are often used to dealing with dead bodies and this could mean that the main character is too.
Title sequence can be subcategories into discrete title sequences as the titles are integrated into the moving images and it doesn't clearly show the film storyline however it does help to set the tone and gives clues as to what could happen later on in the film.
The order of credits:
– ident
– idents name on a moving image
– film company and production company
– the title of the film
– the actors names (individually come up 12 times)
– casting crew
– the costume designer
– the music supervisor
– who created the music/who was the music by
– who was it edited by
– the production designer
– the director of photography
– executive producers
– the director
