2 - Prelim Evaluation

I made a prelim film for my coursework. While making the film I learnt a few new skills. Whilst I was planning I quickly realised that I would need two things; that was a storyboard and a script. A storyboard will enable me and my group to keep track of what we are doing, and how we are going to do it.The script will allow us to say the same thing on Camera so that the cuts and pieces of film will match. In my opinion I think that the planning was a success as we had no problems with it and it was beneficial. The main thing I learned was how to storyboard my ideas. I was good at the storyboarding, however I struggled in thinking of the script so I gave a few suggestions towards it. The overall planning process helped us to save time in creating our final piece.

Our location was an empty train, as we were not allowed to leave the school for this we had to make the classroom look like a train with some creativity. Next time if I can I will use a more accurate location. Anton was the one using the camera, me Karen and Milosh were the ones being filmed. The filming process was easy as it was all planned before, however once we did our original shots and angles we chose to do more additional shots and angles, so that we will have more choice when it came to the editing. The next time I do this I would like to use the camera as I really enjoy using cameras and filming.

I learnt the most skills and editing. I learnt how to trim my video clips, insert them in order in the timeline and add motion effects (making a clip slow motion and fast motion). I also learnt how to include my title on screen. With editing the only problems I had was the limitations of my knowledge on the software. I had no problems with piecing the clips together, however I had problems trying to add effects and transitions I had not learned. In the future or I will watch YouTube videos on how to do more advanced things on the software I was using.

In my opinion I think that my film was a success because we had no problems with showing someone walk for a door, sit down and have a conversation. All of these things were shown clearly, and our cuts matched. The 180° rule was easy to stick to and this rule helped our match cuts and shot reverse shots to look more professional and understandable. Overall I think all aspects of the filming and filmmaking was good as it was all planned and went according to the plan.
